This week marks the official opening of the world's largest digital light sculpture- the Bay Lights in Northern California...

With over 25,000 LED lights illuminating the northern span of San Francisco's Bay Bridge, artist Leo Villareal's design brings the iconic structure to life with a dancing display of flickering lights, as seen in the video below, shared by photographer Adrian Graham on Vimeo.

The Bay Lights is the world’s largest LED light sculpture, 1.8 miles wide and 500 feet high. Inspired by the Bay Bridge’s 75th Anniversary, its 25,000 white LED lights are individually programmed to create a never-repeating, dazzling display across the Bay Bridge West Span through 2015.

Drawing inspiration from the surroundings and the dynamic nature of the water below, Villareal leveraged digital technology and innovative software to control the changing patterns and sequences. Learn more about the project and the processes employed here.
