Architectural Inspiration: Tadao Ando

Posted on by Lauren Moss

Tadao Ando's work has been called an 'architecture of silence', a reference to the timeless quality achieved through the Japanese architect's thoughtful consideration of form, light and geometry.

A formal progression through space, informed by nature and realized through the careful application of materials, is fundamental to Ando's work, and this concept is beautifully illustrated in a private ranch designed for Tom Ford at a 24,000 acre site in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Originally published in Vogue Paris several years ago, these photos by Guido Mocafico convey the heightened sense of place created by Ando's minimalist intervention in the desert landscape.
