Building + Process: A visual timeline

There's been quite a bit of development at MYD's project in Villa Park since the last update from the site.

An overview of the construction progress, in the form of a photographic timeline, shows the transformation from the first day at the site to the most recent construction photos, taken just a few days ago. Starting with a shot of the house in its original state, the work was photographed from the same perspective at various points during the course of construction, which began just under a couple months ago...

orange county residential construction / demolition

In addition to major demolition at the interior, there was significant work at the exterior of the home as well, including the removal of existing walls, hardscape, portions of the roof and trellis, along with all the doors and windows. Once demolition was complete, the foundation poured and debris cleared, the site was ready for exterior framing to begin.

The wood stud walls give a sense of the form of the new massing that is adding square footage at the master suite while creating a private deck accessed directly from the bedroom. The cantilever overhead provides a sense of privacy, enclosure and protection from the elements.

Soon after, the flat roof and parapet were built and tied into the existing structure, with the exterior plywood sheathing further defining the contemporary forms and spatial organization of the rear elevation and outdoor gathering spaces.

The floor to ceiling window system at the bedroom and an asymmetrical vertical window allow for light and views where desired, and skylights and clerestory windows provide privacy at the elevated master bath wet room...

More updates will be coming soon- we'll take a look at the progress inside next, where the new concrete floor is already in place, as well as much of the interior framing for the redesigned floor plan layout, including a new bedroom, bathroom and kitchen.
