A Visit to the Chicago Architecture Biennial
This past year marked the inaugural Chicago Architecture Biennial, the first event of its kind in the United States... and an opportunity for us to visit a favorite city while exploring the impressive collection of projects and exhibitions throughout the region.
The broad-based program aimed to serve as 'a platform for groundbreaking architectural projects and spatial experiments that demonstrate how creativity and innovation can radically transform our lived experience.' chicagobiennial
Addressing issues from site-specific concepts for Chicago's waterfront redevelopment to full-scale housing prototypes, 'The State of the Art of Architecture' was indeed an encompassing look at architecture and its role in society today, with over one hundred participants from more than thirty countries.
'This exhibition is a round table at which people of all ages, backgrounds, and origins are invited to present their outlook on the state of architecture. Like the city it is set in, the Biennial is an experiment in what is possible, an open invitation to contemplate what architecture is today, and what it can become tomorrow.'
