Drafting a Floor Plan...

A few weeks ago, we shared schematic floor plans for a residential renovation in North Laguna Beach. Currently in design development, the initial concept will continue to undergo iterations, and details will be further informed by the three-dimensional model and additional architectural studies underway.

In the meanwhile, though, we thought we'd share a time lapse video of the process of hand drafting the schematic floor plan.

With an existing structure and strict development guidelines to consider along with a new program and functional aesthetic, we still always start the design process with hand sketches, overlays and studies.

Upon establishing a concept outlining spatial adjacencies, size and circulation, the design is further developed into a scaled floor plan at our studio's drafting table and Mayline...
