LACMA + California Modernism

Over the past few months, we've shared highlights from our visits to the exhibits and galleries that have participated in Pacific Standard Time- a landmark arts initiative from the Getty. In collaboration with dozens of cultural institutions, museums and galleries throughout the region, it celebrated modern Southern California art, architecture and design innovation from 1945 to 1980.

A feature of the event was the carefully curated collection of art, furniture, drawings and technologies at LACMA's California Design, 1930-1965: Living in a Modern Way.

Considered to be the first major study of modern design in Los Angeles, the exhibit focused on the art and innovation that contributed to the transformative social and cultural paradigm of the era, shaping the new 'California lifestyle'.

With mid-century originals, vintage publications, and even the entire contents of the Eames Living Room, removed from the home for the first time and reconstructed inside the museum, the exhibition was impressive, informative and engaging.

The various institutions contributing to Pacific Standard Time covered a broad spectrum of topics related to historically significant works of art, film, and architecture in the region.
