Modern Bath Design: geometry + dimensional wall tile
From concept development through the construction process for this modern renovation in the Niguel West community of Laguna Niguel, our approach focused on updated the existing aesthetic and increasing functionality while preserving the mid-century character of the original 1960s home.
Similar to the exterior updates at this single level courtyard design, the remodel at the interior also considers a modernist sensibility within the context of a complete renovation.
For example, the porcelain wall tile at the master bathroom reflects a contemporary reinterpretation of classic modernist residential design elements, highlighting playful geometries and modular forms.
Precise alignment of the 24"x24" tiles highlights the textural undulations and allows for a cohesive, uninterrupted pattern across the entire shower and vanity wall, creating an effect that unifies the space.
This not only provides for spatial continuity, but adds a sense of depth and movement to the compact master bathroom, particularly when accentuated by natural light. Minimalist Graff fixtures at the vanity and shower visually balance the 3-dimensional curves with distinctively angular geometries and minimalist matte finishes.
With move-in last week and final paint touch-ups wrapping in the next few days, we're looking forward to seeing this critical phase of this project complete- more photos to come soon!
