Local Architecture: Wayfarers Chapel by Lloyd Wright

Posted on by Lauren Moss

Taking inspiration from the natural environment, Wayfarers Chapel in Palos Verdes is a beautiful architectural interpretation of Northern California's soaring redwood forests.

Designed by Lloyd Wright, the son of Frank Lloyd Wright, the small glass and wood enclosure seamlessly connects to its beautiful site, perched above the Pacific Ocean on the California Coast.

Constructed in 1951, the 'tree chapel' highlights the relationship between nature and spirituality through the considerate use of form and massing, as well as transparency of materials and scale.

A celebration of space, spirituality and the natural world, the small structure is a beautiful and timeless work that embodies an appreciation of space, connectedness and the natural environment.
